Individuals and Couples don’t have to face anything alone.
I help you navigate those distressing emotions
Alison Swindin - Professional Counsellor

My name is Alison

As a professionally trained, qualified and experienced Person-Centred Counsellor, I collaborate with clients to help them navigate their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. I offer both online sessions (accessible from any location) and face-to-face counselling at local venues in Wakefield, Castleford, Pontefract, Knottingley, and nearby areas.

I specialise in Individual and Couples Counselling, providing a safe space where you can express your feelings, explore difficult situations, and find healthier ways to cope.

Together, we can work on a range of issues including ...

  • Anxiety and Depression

  • Relationships

  • Family Challenges

  • Communication Effectiveness

  • Low Self-Esteem

  • Infidelity

  • Low Self-Confidence

  • Retirement

  • Bereavement

  • Support for Caregivers

  • Long-Term Health Conditions

I provide an initial complimentary 20-minute telephone consultation. This allows you to assess whether I am the right counsellor for you. Our relationship is crucial, and as we collaborate to establish trust, we can delve into the challenges and difficulties you may be encountering.

Throughout my practice, I've worked with clients of all ages and diverse backgrounds, each facing their unique set of challenges. Their experiences in various situations are entirely their own. I consider myself fortunate to have been part of their journeys, prioritising their well-being. As their self-awareness grew during our work together, they gained the ability to make informed decisions and move forward.

As your Counsellor, I am here to support and listen to you, empowering you to make decisions that align with your unique needs, I don't provide direct advice.

You are the expert on your own life. I will assist you in gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships, fostering confidence in your decision-making process. Taking the initial step toward seeking help can indeed feel overwhelming.

Whether this is your first experience with counselling or a return visit, it's crucial to find a counsellor with whom you feel comfortable —a safe space where effective work can unfold.

Counselling tailored for carers offers invaluable support, allowing them to prioritise their own well-being and delve into their emotions and choices. If you find yourself in a caregiving role, counselling can assist you in managing the emotional impact of your responsibilities and discovering strategies to handle stress and obligations.

Drawing from my own experience as an unintentional long-term carer, I can empathise with others facing similar circumstances.

Comforting Hands

I'm so glad that I found Alison. She has provided me with a compassionate, kind and non-judgemental listening ear at a time when I needed it the most. I never thought I'd be in the position to need to speak to a counsellor and was very nervous about what it would be like, but she made it as easy as possible and helped me to navigate the challenges I was dealing with. As a result, I now have the tools and the self-belief I need to be able to face whatever comes my way. I cannot thank Alison enough and would recommend her to anyone who feels like they are struggling and might be hesitating to get some extra help.
