Working nationwide online or face to face in Pontefract, Wakefield and surrounding areas.

With extensive experience I will support you through personal issues, including midlife challenges. When you feel ready to end therapy you will feel lighter, more self assured and equipped with tools to handle life's challenges.

Your wellbeing is important. I offer a no obligation 20 minute initial call so you can decide if I am the right therapist for you. The call gives you a safe space to discuss how I can help. Take the first step by calling or texting 07459 036603.

Nobody lies awake thinking about therapy itself. They lie awake thinking about the problem they need help with.

Why use me

I am here to listen and support you as you explore options and make choices that feel right for you. Counselling isn't about advice, it is about helping you find your own answers. You know your life best, and I'll help you better understand yourself and your relationships while building confidence in handling challenges.

Taking the first step can feel daunting, but it is a courageous and meaningful decision. Whether you are new to counselling or returning, finding someone you feel safe and understood with is key.

What to expect

Our first call is a relaxed conversation with no obligation. If we go ahead, sessions take place in a quiet, comfortable room in Pontefract or online from anywhere in the UK. You set the pace, you choose what to bring, and you decide when you are ready to finish.

Support for carers

As a carer I know how easy it is to put your own needs last while focusing on others. Counselling can offer a space to focus on yourself, your wellbeing, your emotions and the challenges you face. It is about taking the time to process how your role affects you and finding ways to manage the stresses and responsibilities that come with caregiving.

Through counselling you can explore strategies that work for you and draw on shared experiences to navigate similar challenges. It is a chance to prioritise your own wellbeing so you feel more balanced and supported in everything you do.

What others say

In their own words

Thank you very much Alison. We really appreciate it, you've helped us massively and when I think about where we were 12 months ago, life feels completely different, in a good way.
N & T from Pontefract, August 2025
Thank you so much for your help, Alison. There were certain issues I wanted to work through when I first contacted you but during our sessions we covered other situations and relationships I hadn't realised were bothering me. I'm happier now, more positive and confident and am worrying less, thanks to the tools you shared. Being heard and feeling supported was exactly what I needed to help me through a very difficult time.

Common questions

Things people often ask

What can counselling help with?

Common areas of focus include anxiety and depression, relationships, family challenges, communication difficulties, low self esteem, infidelity, retirement, bereavement, support for caregivers, and adjustment to long term health conditions.

Are you BACP registered?

Yes. I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, membership number 401434, and I work to the BACP Ethical Framework.

Do I need a GP referral to see a counsellor?

No referral is needed. You can contact me directly to arrange a free 20 minute introductory call.

Do you offer online counselling?

Yes. Online sessions are available nationwide across the United Kingdom. In person sessions are available in Pontefract and Wakefield.

How much does counselling cost?

Individual counselling sessions are £50 for 50 minutes. Couples counselling is £70 for 50 minutes. There is also a free 20 minute initial call so you can decide whether I am the right fit before committing to a session.

How long is each counselling session?

Standard sessions last 50 minutes. The free initial call is 20 minutes.

How often will I need to see you?

Ideally we would meet weekly, especially in the early stages when we are getting to know each other and building momentum. After our first few sessions we may agree to move to fortnightly if that suits you better.

Do I have to come at the same day and time each week?

I try to give every client a regular slot because continuity helps the work, but I know that isn't always practical. I work flexibly with shift workers and people whose availability changes week to week.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone is unique. Some people benefit from a few sessions of focused work over a short period, while others find longer-term counselling more helpful. We'll talk about this during your free 20 minute call and review it together as we go.
