How I can help

Anxiety counselling in Pontefract

In the words of someone living with anxiety

Anxiety can creep into every part of life. Some days I feel on alert even when nothing is wrong. My mind won't switch off, my chest feels tight, and I'm tired in a way that sleep doesn't fix. Some nights I can't sleep at all, because my head is full of racing thoughts. I keep going, but underneath it I feel stretched thin.

It shows up in lots of ways: overthinking everything, worrying about things that haven't happened, feeling sick with nerves for no clear reason, or avoiding things because they feel like too much. Sometimes it's just feeling "off" and not being able to explain why.

People say "everyone gets anxious", but this feels heavier than that. It affects how I live, how I sleep, how I work, and how I feel about myself.

If this feels like you

You're not alone. Many people reach a point where anxiety stops being something they can push through and becomes something they want help with. If any of this sounds familiar, it may help to know what counselling can offer.

How counselling can help

You're not after a quick fix, or someone telling you to "calm down". If it were that simple, you'd have done it already. You want a space where you don't have to pretend, where you can talk honestly without being judged or rushed.

Counselling gives you that quieter space, and room to slow down and make sense of what's going on inside. Someone who listens, and who helps you understand why your thoughts spiral, why your body reacts the way it does, and why things can feel so intense.

At your own pace, you can learn to feel more grounded, less overwhelmed and more in control. You don't need to be "fixed". You need support, understanding and a bit of room to breathe, so you can start to feel like yourself again.

I'm Alison, a BACP registered counsellor. I offer anxiety counselling in person in Pontefract and Wakefield, and online across the UK. We can start with a free, no pressure 20 minute call so you can decide if I'm the right counsellor for you. Sessions are 50 minutes, at a pace that suits you.

If this feels familiar and you'd like support, please get in touch. A short, no pressure call or a simple message is enough to start.
